The Adventuring Party
Discussing table-top and related gaming and the Irish gaming scene so you don't have to.

This week's hosts: Liam, Graham, Cian and Oisin

Guest: Nick Huggins

The Adventuring Party welcomes the return of guest host Nick Huggins – this time, discussing something relevant to him! Yes, Team Midway are planning a new on-going LARPstravaganza called Gilgamesh, and we're pumping out all the hot, sticky info-juice you could possibly want! Rub it into your skin, and revel in its greasy scent!

Also, Eoin, you suck.

Show notes:

  • 0.57: Midway was amazing, and touched the lives of those who played. I only went the one time, as an NPC, and it was incredible. Sadly, it is now defunct, but information on it is still available here.
  • 3.20: The Epic of Gilgamesh
  • 15.22: Never before have I heard someone say “nerf” with such passion. You could tell it had been waiting to boil up out of him for some time. Nerf guns.
  • 22.18: That website in full, folks:
  • 25.41: If ANYONE is listening
  • 26.38: What's that? The Gaelcon site for pre-booking? What a novel idea!
  • 34.52: Both Graham and I have already booked our tickets. Sucks to be you, ticket-less losers!

What up, scrubs? This week, we discuss two live-action events; one which has gone, and one which is yet to come. The Academy of Eblana event 3 (or 4, depending on who you ask) was in Louth at the end of last month, and Last Summer Weekend will be on in the Dublin Mountains this Saturday... yes, three days from now.

This week's hosts: Liam, Graham, Cian and Oisin

Guest: Nick Huggins

Show notes:

  • 0.37: For those at home, we're talking to gaming legend Nick Huggins. Well, he's a legend to me. I manage to contain myself when I'm in his company, but he was responsible for the most amazing LARPs I played at Irish conventions when I had just started attending them as a wee un, so talking to him is effectively meeting a childhood hero for me. Man, I hope Nick doesn't read these show notes.
  • 0.52: Last Summer Weekend!
  • 0.58: Academy of Eblana!
  • 1.48: God DAMN that was a smooth plug from Graham. He's right, though, the IGA does have a new website. Check it out!
  • 3.32: It occurs to me that most of the derailing on this show may be my fault.
  • 4.56: It also occurs to me that I should put up a link to this calendar we've been plugging. Google Calendar!
  • 10.27: Man, I really hope I pronounced Hannah's name correctly there. If not; sorry, Hannah!
  • 20.23: Eblana discussion begins here
  • 21.14: The Sidhe. They're not a bunch of happy chappies. Well, they can be, but not for any reasons that would make you happy. Unless you're a remorseless sociopath.
  • 23.48: I didn't know Eoin was at Eblana. Zing! Oh snap! Oh burn! It's easier to rag on Eoin when he isn't there, being smarter than me.
  • 34.36: In a remarkable reversal of Irish stereotypes, Nick starts fights when he HASN'T been drinking.
  • 40.39: Quote of the Episode: "I'm now seeing you as that guy... who was that guy from Trainspotting?... that's not helpful, they were all Scottish"
  • 40.52: The conversation concerning mass character death begins here. Good stuff all round, I felt.

This week we respond to yet ANOTHER piece of listener mail, from a TOTALLY NON-FICTIONAL listener! Honest, guv! We discuss Character Journals, as kept in- or out-of-character by a player in a game; how they can add to the proceedings; and what their best uses are. Or something like that.

No show notes this week, because.

Hello everyone! This week we discuss and review the recent games convention in Dublin, Hobocon 3. We also claim that we're going to review a boardgame, but then we don't. What you gonna do about it, huh? Yeah, that's what I thought; nothin'. Keep walkin', buddy.

Show notes:

  • 0.35: This is all entirely lies. We don't review Resistance Avalon at all. That'll be a future episode!
  • 0.48: My chronovariance strikes before the reviews even begin!
  • 1.21: Edge of Tomorrow is based on All you need is Kill
  • 3.01: Did somebody say Gaelcon? I think somebody said Gaelcon!
  • 8.30: More info on Pathfinder Mythic
  • 9.16: Pathfinder's world of Golarion is nicely compartmentalised like that. I particularly like Revolutionary France Land.
  • 10.44: God, why are we talking about Peig? Everyone hates Peig.
  • 11.40: Ok, full disclosure: some or all of what I said there may be complete rubbish. The film in question was Robert J. Flaherty's Man of Aran and, first of all, it isn't silent. You can watch it with glorious sound here on YouTube. Second, I have NO IDEA where I got the bit about Inuits from. I think I was getting confused with Nanook of the North. Anyway, he misrepresented the islandfolk, that much is true.
  • 14.07: Quote of the Episode: “You are wise like Owl... is that a +3 or a +4?”
  • 17.11: The Quarriors/Marvel things is called Marvel Dice Masters
  • 21.03: Did somebody order a LARGE HAM!?
  • 23.25: That was, indeed, a joke that will not make sense until the next episode drops!
  • 26.29: ...and that's another joke that won't make sense until next week. Also, spoilers.

It's time for our Q-Con review! That's right, the Adventuring Party has survived the wilds of Belfast once again, and convenes now to provide a look back at how it went.

No show notes this week. I'm editing this after getting home from Academy of Eblana Event 3 (the Adventuring Party will review it within the next few weeks) and I am so tired I want to die.

Ok, there's one show note. I got the week wrong in the intro. It's the first week of July, clearly. Like I said; I'm tired, and I'm not re-recording the intro.
